Kitchen Remodel – Week 6

December 5, 2009 § 7 Comments

I can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Well, it helps that we now have light in both rooms. After Week 6, cabinets are all in. Template for the counter tops have been made. Dry fit of the rangetop is thumbs up (whew!). And did I mention, we have lights! After all these years living in these 2 rooms that was barely lit by some 1980’s fluorescent ceiling light box. What a difference. Heck, I barely remember what the old kitchen looks like.

A few features I love about these cabinets: roll-out drawers (full extension), doors have a soft close (awesome!) feature as well as all the drawers.

One of the must haves was spice pull-outs. Unfortunately, these are not soft close but I can live with that. The boys were making sure that it was up to sniff snuff.

Next week will be flooring and pantry.

Meals for the week (including a couple from Week 5:

  • Ipo BBQ (Again??? Yes!)
  • Frozen meals
  • Phil’s BBQ
  • Hamburger Factory (post to come)
  •  BLT & A
  • Chicken Pie Diner
  • Thanksgiving dinner and leftovers (courtesy of MIL!)

Have a wonderful weekend. Stay dry and warm.

  • It’s looking so great! You’re going to love the roll out drawers and soft-close feature. Because our soft-close is an add-on hinge thingy to the cabinet door (and drawer) hinges, you can take them off to adjust the doors. We did that the other day (somehow the door was way crooked!) and we stunned at how loud the door closing was without it! It may sound lame, but those two features are the highlight of our kitchen remodel. At least, to me.

Thanks, Leanne! Doesn’t sound lame at all. I wouldn’t doubt is think those are the top 2 wanted features in a kitchen remodel. The soft close is the Mister’s favorite feature but I think I’ll love it more than him since he’s the one with the heavy hand, if you know what I mean.

The full extension drawer is also something I think I’ll really get to love since things won’t get as lost in the back of the drawers anymore. And no more crawling to the back of the cabinets, too!

Ooh it’s looking good! Looks like you’ll have lots of space for cooking and baking =)

    • CAB says:

Thanks Kirbie! There is definitely more counter space now for everything we need to do, ie., more than 1 person can actually function in the kitchen. Before, the workspace was less than half the new size. I can’t wait to start cooking and baking.

  • light at the end of the tunnel indeed! it looks great! makes me wish i had my own home. cant wait to see the finished product! i hope you had a great thanksgiving! 🙂
