Sab-E-Lee Thai Restaurant – Santee
April 16, 2010 § 6 Comments
My friend L and I had lunch at Sab-E-Lee in Santee today and Koby mentioned that he had sold the first location to a friend of his. According to Kirk’s post, it was sold to the employees. Well that explains the change to the website and why I was confused when I saw “The Original” and no mention of Sab-E-Lee in Santee (well, not that the first website had the Santee info). Koby mentioned that the Linda Vista location will be expanding soon, which would be nice. But this post is really about lunch about Sab-E-Lee in Santee. It was my first lunch there. You can read about the first dinner experience here.
L and I kept it simple. We started with the Kra Throng Tong since L never had this before (sorry no picture but you can find one here). She really enjoyed it. I was trying to talk her into just sticking the whole rice cup in her mouth, which prevents all the fillings from falling out. But she had to be all lady like and did it her way. So I’m a pig, sue-soo-sooey me.
She wanted Phad Thai and I noticed that there was Drunken Noodles as a lunch special. Woohoo! That was the easy part. Now what protein to have with our noodles…
L decided to have chicken with her phad thai. She was hoping for BBQ pork but that kind of pork was not one of the protein options.
Pork or no pork, she loved this dish. I decided to get shrimp with my drunken noodles.
Yummy! The shrimp was cooked just right and you can see a little bit of char on them, love that. The noodles were perfect, slightly sweet and a hint of heat. We both ended up adding more of the hot condiments to our dishes. Guess we should have specified heat levels when we ordered. Those little wonton packs are filled with cream cheese, Crab Rangoon maybe? Sorry, we were so busy catching up that I didn’t focus as much on our meal.
Lunch special prices are comparable with other Thai restaurants, each of the two non-seafood dishes were under $8, my shrimp was the most expensive but still under $9. Total bill came to $27 and some change. The drive is a little bit further away than the Linda Vista location but I like going out to the Santee location. It’s always good to see Koby and the friendly staff there. Koby always make us feel like the dishes were made especially for us. And not needing to have cash on hand is a benefit too, hehe.
L and I promised to have lunch here on Fridays at least once a month. This will give us an opportunity to try more dishes. Of course you can find lots of SEL reviews out there: Kirk and Cathy have done an awesome job at trying many of the dishes for us (here, here and here). You can also read about Leanne’s meal here. And you can find the whole menu on Dennis’ post here.
