Luc’s Biesto is closed.

Hello? Anyone still out there? I’m still here, just busy with a lot of other things. And I’m *stlll* waiting for servers to be upgraded and my database to be moved so I can update this site. Sigh… Hopefully the database will be moved by the end of the week and I can finally upgrade what I need. In the meantime…

The Mister and I recently went to Luc’s Bistro in Poway for lunch to use one of the Groupon I purchased not too long ago. I had to snag a few when I got the notification since we’ve been enjoying lunches at Luc’s for awhile now. I actually took my camera with me (hope no one peed their pants out of shock) AND (hold on to your Depends!) I actually took pictures!

The soup of the day was one of our favorites, turnip soup with truffle oil! This is the soup that inspired me to make it at home (recipe here). Luc’s soups are one of the reasons why we love going there so much. They make the most delicious and comforting soups.

Here’s a picture of the butternut soup from one of the other times we were there. This was another winner.

I had a hankering for their truffle fries so we decided to share an order. Fried to perfection. There was a hint of the truffle oil and it also has some shavings of Parmesan cheese. I love these.


The Mister ordered the special, Halibut stew (with olives, bacon and white beans). He really enjoyed this.

I went with the Shrimp and Grits. Whoa this was a garlic butter lover’s delight! The shrimp was cooked perfectly but I wish there were more than 3 pieces. But in all fairness, this is actually an appetizer and not an entree. But I still would have loved just a couple more of shrimp. The grits were fine although I prefer the grits to be cooked just a bit more longer. The Mister thought it was cooked perfectly.

We were going to have dessert but neither one of us had room by the time we were done.

The Mister’s Short Rib Shepherd’s Pie, which he loved. I think this was one of the daily specials. It came with a simple mixed baby greens.

The filling was mostly shredded short ribs.

I had the Chicken Panini. Loved the roasted bell peppers and chipotle mayo. Side of fries, again fried perfectly.

I don’t think we had room for dessert on this visit either. I really enjoy Luc’s chocolate mousse but never seem to manage to save room for it. But that’s okay since we pretty much enjoyed everything that we’ve had here.

Postscript: I received an email from Monica Bui, the owner of Luc’s Bistro stating that they will no longer be serving Sunday brunch.

    We love Luc’s! Didn’t grab any Groupon’s though – they usually have coupons in the Poway local paper.

    I think it’s been a while since we’ve been in – haven’t even seen the turnip soup yet, but we do love their soups, too.

    I’m hard pressed to order anything other than the salmon, especially if it’s served on the lentils. I think it’s due time we go visit them, now!

      Hi Leanne! I save those coupons too but couldn’t pass up the 50% off deal. Their salmon is pretty darn good. I’ve been trying to eat through their menu but I get stuck in ordering the same things many times. So I try to order something new here and there.

  • shrimp and grits sounds good! so does the short ribs pot pie…i wish this restaurant was located down south! ha ha.

    Hey CAB – I’m wondering what the general age of the customers were on your visit….we went for lunch once and everyone was at least 15 years older than me…and I ain’t no spring chicken! The food was…ok, but I felt kinda strange and I really usually don’t feel that way in any restaurant no matter what the clientele!

      Hey Kirk! There was only one other table when we got there but we do get there fairly early. Of the tables that came in after us, it was mixed but definitely no younger than say, 30’s? There were two tables of patrons that were older than me and I’m older than you so…yeah, that’s about right. Hmm, interesting. I’ll have to make a mental note to check out the people when we’re there again.

      Luc’s menu is a bit limited in my opinion but we mainly go for the soups. The dishes that I’ve had, I’ve enjoyed most of them. There are a few dishes that I won’t order again though.
