Happy Valentine’s Day!

UPDATE: Sorrento European Bakery is closed.
I stopped by Sorrento European Bakery today to pick up a cake for the Mister for Valentine’s Day. Wouldn’t you know it that when I got home, I noticed a small moisture spot on the bottom of the box. Opened it and this is what I found.
At first glance the cake looks okay but notice how the glaze on top is streaked near the top of the picture? And how the peaches look off and the berries are sort of scattered all over the place? Well, the gel on top didn’t get a chance to solidify since they made the cake for me this morning and the cake shifted on the way home. A couple of the peaches slid off with some of the whipped cream frosting. Shit. At least 3 of the sides still look good. Good thing I didn’t have them write anything on the top. But I still can’t wait to cut into this baby! At least I know it’s fresh!
This is the same cake Strawberry Coconut Mousse cake that I bought for him when CC and I came here on this visit. He loved it so much and since I never did order a birthday cake that I thought getting one for Valentine’s day would be nice. I also picked up a small piece of the Vanilla Strawberry with custard cake just to try.
Now if he would just hurry up and get home!
When I was waiting for the cake, the gentleman behind the counter and I struck up a conversation. Turns out he’s Chinese Vietnamese and he speaks fluent Mandarin. When he brought out the cake, he told me that when I show this to my husband, he’ll buy me a huge diamond. I thought that was funny and the Mister thanks his lucky stars I’m not really into jewelry.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
